Clap your hands!

I don’t believe this is the Cubs’ year just because it’s been 100 years.
I don’t believe one insanely weird come-from-behind win in May can define a season.
I don’t believe the 2008 Cubs are without faults.
I don’t believe in Elvis.
I don’t believe that the Cubs can win the division playing under .500 on the road.
I don’t [...]

Cubs win, or Rockies lose?

Does it matter? Probably not. The Cubs scored five unanswered runs after the Rockie half of the seventh, Kerry Wood came in with his four run lead and everyone went home happy. Again.
The teams combined for four errors with seven walks, seventeen strikeouts and 22 hits; it was hardly a well-played game. [...]

A clean sweep. At home, of course.

An encouraging stat: Bob Howry sports a 1.98 ERA in May.
A not-so-encouraging stat: Bob Howry sported an 8.03 ERA in March and April.
Getting Howry going is huge for that bullpen.
You have to love Geovany Soto’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to get the game to extras. He watched two balls before taking a [...]

Same old same old

Getting away from the Cubs, particularly given how the weekend set against the Pirates ended up, was a good thing. There is thought to closing down shop when they take to the road to stay sane through the next 110 games since it’s obvious that they’re going to stink away from Wrigley Field.

All my friends are Pirates and they sail the B.B. Sea.

The holiday weekend will see me away from the television and WGN Radio, which will make me unable to discuss the weekend set against the Bucs.  I’ll be back on Tuesday morning with thoughts on the Monday afternoon game against the Dodgers.
Have a good weekend.
Stay tuned.  Please.

Spoiler Alert!

Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father.
You were warned.
Anyway, we all know how this road trip will end. The Cubs will take two of three from the Pirates, wind up with a .500 record in the six games and all will be right with the world since they only need to go .500 on the [...]

The Man in the Moon has left the building

I finally realized that Lance Berkman reminds me of former Red Sean Casey since neither are thin and both are affable guys. It appears to me as though Berkman can sling the BS, as Casey can, and I would love to know what type of BS was exchanged between Berkman and notorious BS slinger [...]

A unique win

I feel very confident in making this statement: tonight’s game will be the only time Geovany Soto will have a game-winning, inside-the-park home run. I’ll already say he’s my favorite Cub catcher since Jody Davis, and there might come a time when I say he’s the best catcher since Jody Davis.
The box score and [...]

Sail away, Raymond. Sail away.

After what can only be described as an insanely successful home stand, the Cubs take to the road for series against Houston and the Pirates. Are they going to improve a bit on the road? They need to.
Have you noticed anything about the division yet? It seems like every team has gone [...]

Coincidence?

At least Carlos Zambrano didn’t chuck the broken bat at Jim Edmonds when he got back to the dugout.
Maybe the bat he broke over his knee didn’t have anything to do with Zambrano’s early exit the very next inning; I don’t know. I know I normally don’t mind Zambrano’s antics, which I understand is [...]
